Life is a Dream, but the Dream is Real

We generally talk about OBEs and astral projection as if something is leaving the body. As if the soul, or a part of it, is travelling through time and space. And this can feel absolutely real. The sensation that you are projecting, floating out of your body, can be a genuine, and real experience. But let's ask ourselves a deeper question: what does real actually mean?

Plato's Cave

Around 380 BCE, Plato wrote a metaphor about how we misunderstand reality. It is called "The Allegory of the Cave," and it describes a dark underground prison where prisoners are chained. They are bound in such a way that the only direction they can look is at the blank wall in front of them. Their vision is locked into a single, fixed perspective.

Behind the prisoners burns an open fire. Between the prisoners and the fire, people walk back and forth, carrying objects, casting shadows on the wall in front of the prisoners. The prisoners see nothing but these shadows. They don’t know anything else than these shadows, and believe these moving silhouettes are real. They believe these shadows represent the only true reality that exists.

From time to time, a prisoner escapes the cave. He ventures outside, sees the sun for the first time, and slowly comes to understand what existed before every shadow. He realizes that shadows never exist by themselves. In absolute awe, the freed prisoner returns to the cave, eager to free the others. But they mock him. They say he has been hallucinating. They reject him, refuse to take him seriously, and willingly remain imprisoned, safely chained to their paradigm.

The value of shadows

Many people believe that when we project or move beyond our physical reality, we can finally perceive behind the veil; as if we are finally stepping...Read More

The question nobody asks

The vast majority of humans are completely ignorant about the fact that our greatest tool is at the same time our biggest threat to inner peace and freedom. We interact with it constantly, from waking to sleep, and still most remain totally unaware of its effect. Even during large parts of sleep we engage with it. Our relationship with this tool ranks among our strongest addictions. Yet the moment we start relating to it more consciously, more mindfully, and with care, life becomes noticeably easier, happier, and more peaceful.

With this blogpost I share my personal views and subjective experiences with one of our greatest assets and, simultaneously, our biggest saboteur of our wellbeing: the thinking mind. I have observed this thinking mind carefully for well over a decade. What I found should shock most people. It also handed me clear, practical clues on how to achieve and maintain inner peace and cultivate real freedom.

The inspiration

Around 2012 I was teaching a simplified version of non-violent communication (NVC). The core idea is simple: when we get triggered we cannot blame the other person for our feelings. Our emotional reactions are created inside us. The other person only presses a button, the button itself is fully ours. Our feelings are homemade.

Because I was teaching this, I became intensely curious about how it worked in me. What are my triggers? How does my thinking mind behave in those moments? What signals does my body give, and how do I respond? I wanted full awareness of my inner workings. So I dedicated myself religiously to understanding “me.” I wanted to know myself.

Calming the waters

The first step was calming the mind. I needed more space between individual thoughts so I could actually see what was happening up there. I stopped...Read More

Inner Child Healing through OBE

Inner child healing is one of the most touching and powerful experiences during a guided OBE. When it occurs during a journey, it’s transformative and healing. While many people associate OBE (Out-of-Body Experience) with astral travel or leaving the physical body, in my work I use it in a broader sense: an expanded state of awareness in which non-physical senses and forgotten memories become accessible, allowing deep inner exploration and healing.

In this blogpost, I share how I apply this expanded OBE state to inner child healing. As always, although the concept of the wounded inner child is supported by many sources, this article reflects my personal opinion based on subjective firsthand experiences. Don't take this as an absolute truth, but as a potential roadmap to restore inner balance when past traumatic experiences still influence the present moment. And from personal experience, I can say that it is worthwhile going inward, in whatever way, and checking in on the state of your inner child.

What inner child healing Is

It is widely accepted that inner child healing is the process of recognizing, acknowledging, and nurturing the wounded or neglected parts of our psyche that formed in childhood. It involves reconnecting with the wounded younger self, validating his or her unmet needs (like validation, safety or love), and reparenting with the compassion and support the child may have missed, helping to release old emotional patterns and live more freely as an adult.

The core idea is that the "wounded inner child" still holds one's early memories, emotional patterns, and unmet needs. When that child experienced trauma, shame, or abandonment, those unprocessed feelings are often stored in the adult subconscious memory, (which includes the physical body) often surfacing as intense overreactions, people-pleasing, low self-worth, or even...Read More

There are many quotes by which the ideas of the famous Greek philosopher Socrates are expressed. The one that I like in particular is a short one, but its effects stretch far and wide.

"Contentment is natural wealth, luxury is artificial poverty."

This quote means that the one who doesn't need more than the basics (food, shelter, community) to feel content lives in abundance. Because his or her contentment is easily reached. Whereas the one who aims for luxury and excess creates perpetuating desires that cannot be fulfilled and therefore lives in artificial (perceived) poverty.

When I was in my thirties, I had a similar expression: "A person who always wants more (money, stuff, etc.) will never have enough. A person who never has enough lives poor."

Please note that I only share here my personal story, ideas and subjective observations. I do not mean to judge anyone. I just like to give a wider perspective, without claiming it to be a universal truth. Not all things are useful to all people.

Manifestation

Some years ago, I lived at a shamanic retreat center. Beautiful things happened there, as well as things I did not understand, like willful manifestation. I saw many people getting themselves involved with this, all kinds of rituals and practices. Do not get me wrong: I wish every person at minimum what I wish for myself. So there is no judgment, only the observation that the people who engage in this often do not perceive themselves as fortunate as they actually are. They desire something that is not in their current experience yet. Their focus seems to be on something that is lacking.

Observing people bringing offerings to the wishing tree was always kind of cute, like the tooth fairy. I would be more interested in a tree of wisdom, but that...Read More

My first 5-day Vision Quest

I am ignorant about what I don't know

The first time I heard about a vision quest was back in 2019. Someone pointed at a beautiful green hill and told me there were private spots where people stay alone for five days. Days without company and without food. They just stay at one spot, doing nothing.

"Jeez," I thought, "why on Earth would someone do that?"

Proof that I am completely ignorant about what I don't know. Because little did I know that just a few years later, I would be doing my first vision quest, and would be doing it yearly from that point onward. In this blog post, I want to openly share my subjective experience and the meaningful parts of that first quest. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever experienced.

For those not familiar with a vision quest

A vision quest is a rite of passage in some Indigenous cultures, particularly among Native American traditions. It involves spending days and nights alone in a wilderness area, without food. The purpose can include:

Seeking spiritual guidance

Understanding life purpose

Meeting a personal spirit guardian

Healing

Information, change, or encounters are often experienced during a vision or a dream.

My first vision quest experience

It was my partner back then who did a three-day vision quest as part of a shamanic training. Her experience opened the door for me. The decision to do a five-day quest came suddenly, an intuitive knowing: "I will do that one day too." I had no clear intention and no expectations, but I felt strongly attracted to it. It turned out to be as much a horrible experience as it was a...Read More

The natural flow

Our physical reality has a specific rhythm, which can be perceived as the flow of breathing: breathing in and breathing out. This translates to accumulation and dissipation, or attraction and release, to collect and to let go. We find it everywhere in nature. Birth, growth, death, decay, rebirth, regrowth, over and over, at scales we cannot perceive.

This rhythm is unavoidable. Trying to stop that rhythm is like forcing your body to only breathe in. Yes, we have lots of inflated egos in this world, but still they are bound to breathing out as much as any other.

Trying to hold on to something, or to accumulate indefinitely, creates tension. If you keep breathing in, you will feel it instantly. There is no space to breathe. If you keep buying more stuff, your house will quickly become too small, leaving you no space to live. When it comes to physical things, it becomes obvious quite quickly and unavoidable.

However, when it comes to our inner workings, we often hold on to tensions, thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we are unaware of. We accumulate more than we can handle without even noticing in the moment. It looks normal in our society: more experiences, more digital information or entertainment; a thinking mind that never releases and keeps going. The body keeps score anyway: muscle tension, restless nerves, mental mist, sleepless nights. And here is the gentle reminder: many of us are walking around holding an invisible inhale. We just forgot we are allowed to mentally breathe out and let go.

Sometimes the body reacts in ways that are unpleasant: disease, burnout, and so on. However, we do not have to let it come to that point. There are various ways that support the mental out breath. Sports, yoga, meditation, massage, and so on are beautiful ways to invite this. Astral projection (OBE) is another way to have that mental out-breath. It’s closely related to...Read More

Why am I here

Many of us ask ourselves at some point: Why am I here? What is the meaning of all this? Does my life serve a purpose, and if so, what? For heaven’s sake, why does it have to be so unpleasant, hard, and seemingly unfair? Why are periods of joy and harmony so often disturbed?

For a long time I asked the same questions. I searched in my work, in relationships, in spiritual books, in personality types, in numerology, in astrology, and later in astral projection and out-of-body experiences. From childhood through school and into my professional life, there was always a background restlessness, sometimes subtle, sometimes loud, pushing me to look deeper.

I found many pieces that felt true and meaningful, yet the deeper unease remained. Something essential still felt missing. Only after years of exploring consciousness, guiding hundreds of sessions, and having profoundly direct experiences did the question finally begin to dissolve. Not because I adopted a comforting belief, but because I saw something directly that shifted how I see everything, including myself.

In this post I share what became clear to me through personal experience. Not as absolute truth for everyone, but as what I have witnessed from the inside, and what I recognize again and again in others.

The Individual Perspective: Three Types of Missions

When people ask about their life purpose during a guided OBE session, three broad categories can be distinguished. I like to stress that there is no hierarchy among these missions. A more experienced soul is not greater or better than a younger soul. All expressions are unique and valuable.

1.	The learners / experiencers

The most common type. For these souls, Earth is primarily a school. The curriculum is incredibly diverse: loneliness,...Read More

Heaven and Hell

I was saddened when I heard that a dear friend of mine had suffered a stroke and fallen into a coma. According to the doctors, the stroke had caused only minor damage, yet he could not wake from his comatose state. After visiting him in the hospital, I learned that time was running out. So I decided to explore the possibility of meeting him in the non-physical realm, to see if I could help. What began as a simple idea turned into a breathtaking adventure.

The territory of belief systems

According to Robert Monroe, there is a territory of belief systems just beyond Earth. This means that when people die, they move to the sector of that territory that matches their deepest, often unconscious, beliefs. In all my previous journeys, I had never encountered this territory. But the journey with my friend gave me a firsthand experience. If I had known beforehand what it would be like, I think I would have reconsidered.

Preparation

I considered this OBE journey important and took it very seriously. I dedicated myself to thorough preparation and to finding a suitable location. The first question was: where to go? Fortunately, a friend of mine owns a beautiful white dome on top of a hill, overlooking nature and the Atlantic Ocean. It is an amazing place in the middle of nowhere. She doesn't live there, but happily agreed to let me stay while I cared for her sheep and chickens.

To align myself with my objective, I spent five days in the dome on a strict, light diet. In the first few days, I walked often, silenced my mind as much as possible, and gently cultivated the energy of my intention: "to help my friend in any way necessary for him and within my possibilities."

The OBE journey

After a long walk on day four, I felt the moment was...Read More

Astral Projection, How it Feels

Astral projection and out-of-body experiences (OBEs) are subjective experiences. While there are common similarities across people's accounts, there are also many differences. This blog post explores how it feels to shift your consciousness from physical reality to non-physical realms.

I often speak with people interested in astral projection. Many have practiced for some time without actually leaving their body. There are several reasons for this, including issues with focus, fear, mental clarity, intention, and (most likely) expectation.

Expectation is often a major hurdle. People read or hear that you must feel intense vibrations, hear specific sounds, or consciously roll or float out of the body. These things can happen, but you don't always need to be aware of them for a successful projection.

Personally, I've only noticed inner vibrations before shifting consciousness in a small number of my journeys, and that's in the minority. The most common way I shift consciousness is through a gentle "shift" or "click" in what feels like my brain. Suddenly, I'm out, instantly in a place that aligns with my intention. From there, the journey unfolds gradually.

The silver cord is another topic that frequently comes up. You are always connected to your physical body, and as long as it's functioning, you'll return automatically. You don't need a visible silver cord for this. The moment you think of your body, you're likely back instantly. Physical signals, like a full bladder, will pull you back quickly too. Whether a silver cord exists visibly or not is irrelevant, I've never seen one and never think about it.

My suggestion is simple: don't try to mimic or follow other people's stories to the letter. Your astral projection experience will most likely be unique to you. Once you've had your first genuine projection (whether guided or spontaneous)...Read More
